Shark diving is a very popular activity in Mossel Bay, which is home to the Great White Shark. The best time to go shark diving is between June and September which are South Africa’s winter months. It’s a thrilling experience that many people have not yet tried and we recommend you do it!
Why you should go shark diving.

If you’ve ever watched a shark documentary then you know that having one of these massive predators behind you is terrifying. Out in the ocean, sharks can move so silently and effortlessly through the water. But when you’re within arm’s length of them, it’s a different experience. The reason why many people find diving with sharks so exciting is that they’re so mysterious. You never know what each dive might bring, or what size shark you might see!
What makes this particular type of diving so unique?
Well for starters, when you’re underwater with these magnificent animals they might come really close to you because they don’t know what humans are. Also, there’s no need for scuba gear or even wetsuits since these sharks can be found close to the surface and in relatively warm water. People who love adrenaline rushes will also enjoy how unpredictable shark dives are.

How much does it cost?
White Shark Africa offer their shark experience for 135 dollars per person. In Mossel Bay, there is only one company that will do this activity: White Shark Africa. They usually offer their trips during peak season between May and October, but they also organize them throughout the year if there are enough people who want to go. The best thing about this company is that you can rest assured that all necessary safety precautions will be taken for your experience to be as safe as possible.

Who can do it?
This adventure is fun for the entire family. Children 10 and up can join in the cage diving fun. Children under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by an adult. Shark cage diving does not have any fitness requirement, you simply need to be able to climb in and out of the cage that is tied and floating directly next to the boat.

What you need to bring with you
You are advised to bring multiple layers so that as the day warms up your undershirt can be removed and you can add an extra layer if necessary. You should also make sure that you wear shoes that have tough soles as they tend to struggle on slippery boats more than tennis shoes would – this could be important if you are going to spend a few hours shark viewing on their boat! Bring your camera to capture these magnificent great white sharks in all their glory and remember to apply that sunscreen!
We recommend you go shark diving in Mossel Bay and experience adrenaline-filled moments with these majestic creatures. If you want a safe adventure for the entire family, we highly encourage you to take advantage of the various activities that range from whale watching tours in Mossel Bay up to scuba dives!
